Saturday and On the Mat

Balasana pose in Hatha yoga, commonly known as...Image via WikipediaAfter a long yoga siesta,
I have started to roll out my mat again.
This makes me happy, to say the least.
My current favorite pose is child's pose.

Many people use it as resting pose between more challenging poses
but I use it as a stand alone pose, often.
It's such a loving pose to practice. Child's pose
is great for helping gentle stretch your body. I have found it particularly helpful for my neck.
By the way, it is super relaxing, too.

I like to do this pose with my wide knees
and my hands extended over head a trick
I learned from a Cyndi Lee video. I often wind up
staying in this pose about 5 minutes.
On a really stressful day, maybe more.

In my mind, this pose is the perfect
way to bring a bit of relaxing energy
into your weekend. If you yoga
do you have a current favorite pose?

{For wide knees pose info try this.}

Hope your Saturday is awesome,
k

  2. i love this pose too, but it can hurt my neck sometimes because i'm not flexible enough to rest my head on the floor. i love the pose where you lie on your back, bend one knee, and bring it across the body while you turn your head in the opposite direction. not sure what it's called, but it feels so amazing on my back, especially after a long day. oh how i love yoga!

  3. This is so great! I so started doing yoga this week and I felt better each day after I did it. I'm wanting to get through some of my tapes and then when I can hold the poses without wavering, I want to take a class.

  4. It looks like a great pose - relaxing. I really need to learn yoga...
And regarding your question about lavender - I'm sure you could use oil instead infusing the butter (and sorry for answering you so late).

  6. to be honest, this is my favourite position in yoga. I use to do it everyday but once you stop its hard to get back into it cause you become stiff again.

  7. @abigail- I know it is so helpful. I forget sometimes, but my tightness reminds.
@diana-just passing on some things that were imparted to me. I hope you are able to get a practice going again.
@Indie.Tea-Yoga is fun to learn. So, I totally recommend you giving it a try. Oh...I went out and got some dried lavender but that is good to know. No worries. Glad you are back!
@kim- I think you could modify it. I've seen people put things under their knees and/or heads.
@Carmella-cobbler's is another one of my favorite poses. It's like instant relaxation.

  10. I also love child's pose. My mind always ventures to wonderful places when I find myself in it; I can relax, breath deeply, relieve tension from my body.

Lately, I have been trying to master tree pose in my Bikram class. I haven't been able to ever balance on just one leg crouched down that way before, but it's my goal to get there soon!
