the other day, i was talking to b. about feeling out of sorts. he mentioned that he was feeling off , too. this led me to i ask him what was he doing about his self-care. naturally, he looked at me like i was crazy but once i explained what self-care was we had a very fun conversation.
it is interesting that i would ask him that question and even have suggestions ...when i struggle to know what to give myself on any given day. i am really guilty of being caught up in routine to the point of strict obedience and that can really make things heavy.
lately, i have been experimenting with just trying to give myself certain feelings versus a precise prescription. it has been a very enlighting experience and to tell you the truth a little hard. however, i am respecting the journey and am interested in what this means for my life.
Lately for me it's been about injecting spiritual practices -- from meditating to praying (I write those down) to gratitude lists to affirmations to even just lighting a candle. And it's all really helped me nourish myself. Also, working with a coach has been incredible (even though we're only getting started). She's been asking me questions and bringing up things I've never considered.
ReplyDeletesounds juicy. i am hoping to work with a coach after September. sometimes, it's just good to have some questions asked of you. I totally agree with infusing the spiritual in life to nourish yourself. i am trying to make way for that daily without it being too forced.
ReplyDeleteconfession: i'm not good at self-care, but i am actively working on it! :D lately this includes taking a nap when i'm exhausted + enjoying a few art classes just for the hell of it (and for the FUN).
ReplyDeletenaps are awesome and so is art. getting messy feeds my soul.
ReplyDeleteI love that you opened the floodgates on an incredibly interesting, thought-provoking conversation.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that I'm the best person to give out advice on self-care either, because I have the tendency to let it slip in my own personal life. But I'm trying constantly to live in the moment, do things that take me out of my comfort zone, and rejoice in the times that make life worth living.
living in the moment. if i could do just one self-care thing it would be that.
